Steve James

 

As a Tax Principal in the VAT Group, Steve provides advice to a wide range of clients on all aspects of VAT, with a particular emphasis on property issues and international services. He is also involved in the preparation and presentation of VAT appeals and regularly negotiates out of court settlements with HMRC. Steve also frequently lectures on VAT to diverse audiences including clients and local accountancy and tax practitioner associations.

Steve has been involved with VAT since 1975 and started his career with Customs & Excise (as it then was) where he gained extensive experience in areas such as fraud investigation and enforcement, headquarters policy and training. Although specialising in VAT he also worked in the departmental internal audit unit for 18 months. Steve left Customs & Excise (as it was then) in 1987 and developed his career and VAT expertise by working for a large accountancy practice.
