Reducing and Detecting Fraud
There are no cast iron guarantees that your business won.t experience fraud.
But what we can do is make it much more difficult for opportunistic fraudsters, and improve your chances of detecting fraud by more determined criminals. How?
- Watch who you let in the door: frauds are often preventable by adhering to employee screening procedures. Research by MORI (July 2001) has shown that references are not followed up in 30 per cent of instances and work histories are either fabricated or exaggerated almost 50 per cent of the time. - Make sure everyone knows the rules: Codes of Conduct and whistleblowing policies make it clear what will and won.t be tolerated (as long as they are more than paper exercises). Good corporate governance will set the tone from above.
- Use technology to your advantage: we use tools such as data mining to search for unusual patterns or clues to identify potentially fraudulent or high risk transactions . no matter what precautions the fraudster has taken.
