Financial Performance Improvement

BDO’s Healthcare Advisory Practice brings a fresh approach to NHS Financial Performance Improvement (FPI) by combining consulting best practice with a deep understanding of the way the NHS operates. Ideas

Experience tells us that staff need to own changes in order for them to succeed. At BDO we work on the basis that it is not possible to have too many good ideas, nor to have too engaging a process to identify them. Whilst we bring a wealth of ideas from our work with other Trusts, by working closely with clinical and non clinical staff, we ensure that these are locally owned and supplemented by the most innovative and effective ideas from within client organisations.

Delivery

In BDO’s work successfully improving the finances of NHS organisations the same key delivery lessons emerge:

  1. Focus on action. Plan carefully, empower people to own and deliver, then monitor actively.
  2. Create high trust environments. Challenging times often draw decision making towards the centre. Avoid this temptation. Creating high trust environments correlates strongly with quicker, longer lasting and lower cost change.
  3. Monitor lead indicators, not lag indicators. Steer the ship by looking where you want to go, not where you’ve come from. The financial ledger is a lag indicator. Someone doing what they said they would is a lead indicator.

People Change

Working with internationally recognised leadership development organisation FranklinCovey, we deliver targeted development and coaching for key individuals involved in delivering change. Where patients are key to delivering changes, we use innovative but evidence based Social Influence techniques as part of our solution, delivered in partnership with behavioural change specialists at Influence at Work. Finally, our method of forming blended teams makes joint working a reality and provides senior managers with confidence that the desired change will happen.
