BDO announces new leadership team

Simon Michaels, Managing Partner designate of BDO, has today announced the line-up of his new Leadership Team. From 5 July, the Leadership Team will comprise:

Dermot Mathias

continues to be the Senior Partner of the Firm.

The team has a mix of young and experienced partners who come from a wide range of backgrounds across the firm. They share a strategic vision of putting the client at the heart of the firm, and ensuring that the business is able to respond quickly to their needs. In addition, the motivation and retention of high quality business professionals continues to be a key driver for the firm, with a Head of People being appointed to the team.

Simon Michaels

was previously National Head of the firm’s very successful Business Restructuring stream having worked in the UK and abroad for clients on a number assignments ranging in complexity and size. He handled many of the firm’s higher profile restructuring advisory projects and, under his leadership, that business significantly increased its market share. He joined BDO in 1987 and was made a Partner in 1999. Simon will spend time with key clients and concentrate on the continued development and growth of the practice.

Dermot Mathias

is the firm’s Senior Partner. Dermot qualified with the firm in 1976. He joined corporate finance as a partner in 1980 having spent a period in management consultancy. In addition to being an active corporate finance partner, he has been involved with the firm’s strategic development and management for the last fifteen years. Dermot will be taking an active role in building the firm’s networks with the City and institutional investors.

The appointment of

Carl Williams

as COO is a strategic one, which recognises that as a result of the firm’s growth and increased standing in the marketplace, the role of the Managing Partner has also grown significantly. Carl will support Simon Michaels on the operational running of the business. He joined the firm in 1978 in the audit stream and became a partner in 1987. Carl has been on the Management Executive for the last eight years and, as such, has been heavily involved in developing and implementing the firm’s previous strategy. He will also take responsibility for the firm’s sectors, the North region (Scotland, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester) and clients.

Sophie Hill

will become the firm’s Head of South. This role means she will have responsibility on the Leadership Team for the financial results of the South region, and will be responsible for the development and oversight of regional strategy. The South region covers Bristol, Eastern (Hatfield and Cambridge), Reading, Southampton and Southern (Epsom and Gatwick). Sophie is currently the firm’s Lead Partner in the Southern region and will retain this responsibility. Sophie joined the firm in 1996 as an audit manager, was made partner in July 1998. She was appointed as lead partner of the Epsom office in 2002 and of the newly-merged Southern region in 2006.

Tony Perkins

, as the firm’s Head of Audit, will ensure development and execution of the national strategy for audit, quality, technical/knowledge sharing, best practice and efficiency. Tony will also have responsibility for the financial results of the London Audit groups. He joined the firm as a graduate in the audit stream in 1980 and was made partner ten years later. In 2004, Tony joined the Management Executive team as head of London and was business sponsor for the firm’s successful move to 55 Baker St earlier this year.

The role of National Head of Advisory is a new role which will oversee Business Restructuring, Corporate Finance and Forensics. In this role,

Gervase MacGregor

will be responsible for the financial results for London Corporate Finance, Business Restructuring and Forensic streams working with the stream heads to ensure development and execution of national strategy for these streams. Gervase has been with the firm as a graduate trainee since 1982 and became a partner in 1991. He started the firm’s Forensic Services stream in 1994. Gervase is also the DTI appointed investigator of MG Rover, the Midlands based car manufacturer which collapsed in 2005.

As the firm’s National Head of Tax,

Paul Eagland

will ensure development and execution of the national strategy for tax, quality, technical/knowledge sharing and best practice/efficiency. He will also oversee the firm’s Investment Management arm. Paul is responsible for the financial results for London Tax and national Investment Management. Paul qualified as an accountant with a Mayfair accountancy practice before joining the firm in 1987. He was made a partner in 1996. Paul became the national head of tax in 2002. Following the acquisition of Chiltern, Paul now leads a group of more than 750 tax specialists.

David Anderson

will take a new role as the firm’s Head of People. His role will be to create a brand that, in relation to its people, is admired in the wider market. David’s vision for the firm’s HR function is for it to be market leading and to ensure consistent people development across the business and that we are proactively recruiting, managing and inspiring talent. David is currently lead partner for one of the London audit streams, a role he will retain. David joined the firm in 1985 and was made partner in 1998. He became Lead Partner of one of the general business groups in 2003.

All members of the new Leadership Team will have both client and management responsibilities which will ensure they remain integrated into the firm’s business on a daily basis.
