Consumer Pocketbook 2011

Here at BDO we think there is more than a little truth in the old adage ‘there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics’. We are continually bombarded with so many statistics that one could forgive even hardened industry professionals for not being entirely up-to-date with the latest developments.

The consumer economy in particular suffers from information overload. From official statistics to industry reports to consumer surveys, almost every day a new data source is published. Unfortunately, very few of these sources are published without at least a modicum of self-interest. What is more, the puff and fluff PR survey is very much alive across the consumer economy.

The BDO Consumer Pocketbook has been created to help decipher this mass of information. It draws upon a wide variety of sources as well as our own expert research. And while we try to present the information in the most meaningful form that is easy to grasp, there is no spin, just the hard facts. It may be small but we hope the Pocketbook is a convenient way to quickly help you understand industry trends.

As a first edition, which we hope will become a regular publication, your suggestions and criticism will be most welcomed to help with improvements for future editions.
