The UK's industry and manufacturing sector could stand to make more of a positive contribution in efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
This is according to the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF), which claimed this is pointed toward by new data on greenhouse gas emissions.
A concerted drive to this goal was advised, although it was noted industry is already making an effective impact.
Head of climate and environment policy at the EEF Gareth Stace said manufacturers can play a significant role in helping households to reduce their carbon footprint and their energy bills.
"The government must therefore ensure, through initiatives such as the green deal and support from the green investment bank, that it has the framework to achieve this," he remarked.
Similar action is already being taken by the retail sector, as a recent report from the British Retail Consortium revealed stores up and down the country are hitting government waste reduction targets.
