Government's tech city policy draws criticism

The government's tech city policy, which encourages technology start-ups to set up in London, has drawn criticism from a leading think tank.

Centre for London has accrued the opinions of many entrepreneurs in and around the capital's Old Street area, suggesting that many have become "frustrated" with the situation surrounding the flagship initiative.

The group's report also voiced concerns over an increased focus on Olympic Park sites, noting that the move "risks diminishing the energy" of tech city.

While many respondents told of their support of government policies, the majority knew few of the details relating to their implementation.

In its response to the report, the Tech City Investment Organisation (TICO) welcomed the research but claimed that the Centre for London has some basic misconceptions about the scheme.

The report also collated concerns over the UK education system, with blame being attributed to an "ill-designed" university system, as well misunderstandings at lower levels.ADNFCR-1898-ID-801398632-ADNFCR
