Conwy records highest UK property price increase

The North Wales county of Conwy saw property prices increase by 13 per cent during 2010.

This is according to the latest Bank of Scotland County House Price Survey.

However, Scottish counties also performed well, with the second highest rises in house prices recorded in East Dunbartonshire (12 per cent), following closely by Dumfries and Galloway (11 per cent).

Areas with above average house prices to start with were found to show some of the highest price rises.

Indeed, Surrey was identified as the most expensive county in the UK with average house prices standing at £296,344.

Suren Thiru, housing economist at Bank of Scotland, commented: "Many of the counties recording the best house price performance in 2010 are in the south of England, reflecting the general outperformance of the housing market in this part of the country.

"However, over the past five years, Scotland dominates the top ten with many of the counties that recorded highest house price growth during this period located here." ADNFCR-1898-ID-800319112-ADNFCR
