Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG), the nation's industry association for e-commerce, has predicted the sector it operates in will continue to enjoy astronomical growth in the coming weeks and months.
Speaking at the Technology for Marketing & Advertising event in Manchester, IMRG chief of operations and policy Andrew McClelland explained that mobile is an obvious area where this will be particularly pronounced.
He acknowledged that this has been on the horizon for the past two years or so, but claimed that it is starting to really happen now.
The expert cited the fashion and apparel sectors as being a very strong example of this, as around 15 to 20 per cent of their total online revenue comes through mobile.
A greater emphasis is likely to be placed on internet customer services as a result of this trend - indeed, IT research and advisory firm Gartner recently outlined some of the errors that are most commonly made by businesses in this respect.
