Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) stated that their IT systems have suffered from security failures due to bad software updates.
According to research from GFI Software, its report revealed that over 50 per cent of SMEs have experienced problems while installing new patch management solutions.
Furthermore, 45 per cent of respondents claim that the updates are usually manual ones and that is why they do not get uploaded into their firms' IT networks straightaway.
Christian Florian, product manager at GFI Software, said: "The stark figures revealed by this research reinforce the importance of testing patches before deploying them in a production environment."
Recently, Return On IT noted that SMEs could benefit from reusing their old IT equipment rather than having a mixed environment.
Andrew Boddington, marketing director at the firm, added that upgrading rather than buying new products can be more cost-effective and efficient to small companies in the long run.
