Flexible working 'important graduate issue'

Flexible working has been highlighted as an important issue for graduates when it comes to their first jobs.

Of the 1,000 university leavers surveyed by Orange, 53 per cent said that they expected to have some influence on their working location and hours.

However, learning experiences and happiness were found to be the most important issues, gaining 69 per cent and 58 per cent of votes respectively.

Max Taylor, director of corporate marketing at Orange, said that both employees and businesses can benefit from flexible working arrangements.

He said: "By understanding the benefits that flexible working can have on a business, bosses can be better prepared to embrace the practice. Allowing employees to work flexibly actually presents a significant opportunity for businesses to save money and improve employee morale."

Mr Taylor added that significant investment" need not be involved in setting up an employee to work from home as long as they are provided with the "tools they need to get the job done".
