Annual independent audit

Environmental assessments

We carry out annual, independent environmental assessments in line with our environmental policy commitment to measure our impact and set targets for reducing that impact. The data gained form these audits help us set environmental targets and methods to achieve them.

The first audit was carried out for the financial year 2005/2006 and since then we have been constantly updating and improving our collection methods in order to gain the most accurate and robust data. In a rare move we even included employee commutes in the carbon measurements.

The results from the 2007/2008 audit showed that we have a carbon footprint of 11,209 tonnes CO2 – this compares to 11,447 tonnes CO2 for 2006/2007. This years figures equates to 3.3 tonnes CO2 per employee, significantly less than the estimated benchmark average of 5-6 tonnes CO2 per UK office based employee (The Carbon Neutral Company).

The information from the audit is used to set targets and carbon reduction strategies, and everyone in the firm has a role to play in helping to achieve them. Calculating our carbon footprint also forms part of our carbon offsetting strategy.
